The Vespa Club of Scotland
2nd Scottish Cannonball, Dunbar
8th & 9th September ‘06

Short Video of the day

The VCS Cannonball... the rally that isn't a standard rally !

With 2 events of this type under the VCS belt now , things are really forming up to be a cracking alternative to your standard park up and get pissed rally (nowt wrong with those ones mind). Greenie insisted this event would get a good name for what it is... a break from the norm,... and he is right.

17 racers took part this year, but along with those around 10 others followed in vans & cars as back up and basically just being along for the jaunt !

On the Saturday of the weekend, at around 11:30 everyone taking part heads of in a rolling start to do a (roughly) 150 mile trip around some nearby towns , answering questions as they go. First back wins the trophy and the title of Cannonball champ !

A lot of folk come along for the free Friday night do' and either camp, stay at the host Hotel (The Rossborough in Dunbar) or at one of the local B&Bs. The Friday night is a very relaxed fun night , no rules no band, no raffle, just a few pints with some good music.

Saturday morning comes and everyone gathers at the hotel, final race preparations take place (usually bacon rolls), entry forms are filled in, routes checked then Away They Go !

While the racers are tearing around the countryside, everyone else chills out at the Hotel , or just scoot around Dunbar. By 4pm the excitement mounts as we await the first folk back.

By around 6pm everyone is back from the race and tales of desparate maneouvres, dastardly route planning and bad luck break down tales are swapped, the back up vans tip out the unfortunate bodies & machines to much cheering, then everyone prepares for the Saturday night do'.

That's when the rally becomes like any other with a great mix of sounds from some top DJ's, this year's bash had DJ's from all over the UK.

If you weren't there this year, get it in your diary for next year, whether you race or not , come along , although the 2007 race should be FUN !
