Cannonball 2008
September 12 - 13
Vespa Club of Scotland
4th Scottish Cannonball
'Raiding the Border'
Welcome to our page dedicated to the Vespa Club of Scotland Cannonball for 2008.
This will be the third time we will utilise the Rossbourgh in Dunbar, with it's nice sized function room, public bar and superb management and staff.
The Cannonball this year has a subtitle 'Raiding the border' with the checkpoints all having a historical feel, this is the only clue you will get until you get your pack on race day!
If you have not taken part in the event before Why not?
It is all about getting on your scooters, using your driving skills (safely), your planning, strategy and the capacity for endurance of your scooter and you!
You can take it seroiusly or you can toddle along, it doesn't matter, if you complete the course you will be one of a growing but still unique group of scooterists, and receive a limited edition embroidered patch. The route is designed to test every spect of scooter riding on varied types of roads: straights, twistys, hills, over a 200 + mile course, with checkpoints picked specifically to level things out as far as tuned v standard scooters goes. A fast scooter is definately not a guarentee of a trophy!
If you are a VCS member this is FREE as part of your members benefits, including the do, non members is a diver which isexcellent value, and if you want you can join the VCS at time of entry for a tenner, get your entry in the race free, the do free and still recieve the mags and other club benefits through out the year, bearing in mind that you need to renew at next years Cannonball to get in free! Or JOIN NOW and get oall the benefits straight away!
Friday Night
This is our relaxed 'Get Together', the aim being to get everyone together for a laugh, a drink and a dance in a relaxed atmosphere. It is a great chance to meet fellow racers, chat about strategy and socialise as we gear up to race day!
This is held in the function room, and moves to the second bar later on, great fun and FOC.
Saturday
RACE DAY
Racers should report to the function room of the Rossborough between 10 and 12 to register, pay entrance fee and recieve your pack.
The registration process is simple, fill out the form and sign the disclaimer, then when you are rady you will recieve the TOP SECRET details of the race, in a pack and your time starts!
Your choice now is to spend time planning or high tail it to the first check point.
There are 10 unmanned checkpoints, and a question relating to each. the question sheet supplied should be competed.
The race ends at the Rossbourgh function room were you need to check in with the end of race official who will stop the clock, and note your time, then scrutineer your question sheet. Your time will then be added to the leader board.
Limited edition patches have been produced for racers, and because it is a great achievement to complete the race, we will be presenting the patches at the celebration evening do.
You must finish the race to guarentee reciept of you patch. Terminal breakdowns will be considered on a case by case basis, dependant on nature of breadown and far along the course you have travelled before breaking down. The decision will be made by the race coordinator with this decision being final.
For non racers the function room will be open with music played at a low level for everyone to chat, and the Vespa Club Scotland shop will be open for business.
CANNONBALL EVENING DO
This will kick off around 7 with VCS DJ's and guests playing the best of classic scooter sounds for a good dance around.
We will hold the raffle draw at 9pm with bin bags full of prizes on offer, such as racks, helmet, tent, and tickets fo the Scottish National at Kelso. After which we will spend a bit of time honouring the racers, presenting the patches, and class winners. This year we will have 1st Overall, 1st Vespa, 1st Lambretta, and 1st Auto. In addition to this we will have a 'Biggest Bang' trophy and a new award for Furthest Travelled Competitor. This will be decided by the Cannonball coordinator, whose decision will be final. The criteria for this award is very simple. To be in with a chance you will have travelled by scooter and competed on same scooter.
To enable a great atmosphere we would encourage everyone competing to get their club, freinds, family and granny along to the do to support and celebrate with you, the more the merrier.
VCS members should remember that this do is also the FREE do as part of your members pack, so take advantage of this benefit, whether you race or not. Remember to bring your valid members card with you.
cheers
